Where to get a mailing list

You could also purchase a mailing list but be careful, make sure you purchase from a legitimate source, there are people out there who "harvest" emails off the internet and then sell them to you. The problem here is if the people on that list have not agreed to receive emails, then whatever you send them unsolicited is spam whether you intended it so or not and that will get you into trouble. If you are not sure ask the supplier to prove that the people on his/her list have agreed to receive emails, if they can't forget it. The legitimate supplier of such lists would have a list which detailed what type of emails, in what category they are interested in receiving emails etc

What are the Rules?

Sending emails from your email client by hand is possible but time consuming,
  1. Limit the number of addressees to 20, your ISP won't allow more as it jams the server. This means if you're sending out 100 emails you need to break it up into 5 messages
  2. Always put the addresses in the Bcc line, this way the recipient doesn't see all your other addressees
  3. Send your messages in the early part of the week
  4. Keep your messages short and to the point
  5. Use a subject line that attracts attention otherwise people will just delete the message
